PRESIDENT TINUBU PLEDGES MODERN, TECH-DRIVEN NIGERIA POLICE FORCE AS NATION MARKS MAIDEN NATIONAL POLICE DAY

In a historic move to reform and modernize Nigeria’s security architecture, The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a well-trained, highly motivated, and technologically equipped Nigeria Police Force.
The President made this declaration on Monday during the grand procession commemorating the inaugural National Police Day held at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu, stressed that, his administration is committed to doing everything possible to give the Police Force the needed support and encouragement.
“We are resolute in our commitment to police welfare and comprehensive reform. A secured Nigeria is vital for our collective prosperity, and this vision begins with ensuring that our police force is well-equipped, well-trained, and well-motivated". President Tinubu declared.
The President outlined key measures being implemented to improve the conditions of service for police personnel which include investment in modern crime-fighting tools, improved accommodation, accessible healthcare services, and quality education for the children of police officers.
“These promises will begin to materialise immediately. We will ensure that your salaries and benefits reflect the gravity of your responsibilities and the risks you face daily, as anything less would be unacceptable.”
He also emphasized that security remains a top priority for his administration, pledging to leave no stone unturned in the fight against internal security challenges such as banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency.
The President stated that April 7 is not merely a date on the calendar rather it is a day firmly entrenched in the national consciousness and a symbol of the Federal government's enduring partnership and respect for the Nigeria Police Force
President Tinubu, had last year announced that April 7 will now be celebrated annually as National Police Day, in recognition of the bravery, sacrifices, and contributions of officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
In his remarks, Inspector-General of Police and Chief Host, IGP Kayode Egbetokun expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the recognition, staying that, the National Police Day was not just a ceremonial gesture but a significant boost to morale.
“This day provides a solemn opportunity to remember our fallen heroes men and women who paid the ultimate price in service to our dear nation, to their families, we say your pain is our burden. These fallen officers remain the eternal symbols of national sacrifice.”. He said
IGP Egbetokun reiterated the commitment of the police leadership to ongoing reforms centered around ethics, professionalism, and respect for human rights.
"Our reform agenda is well underway, we are embracing technology, intelligence-led policing, and community engagement as cornerstones of our service delivery model.” The IGP added
He acknowledged the Federal Government's investment in modern equipment and training, as well as legislative support from the National Assembly, which he said was crucial in repositioning the force into a more accountable and proactive institution.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; and National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, AIG rtd, Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Deputy Governors of Edo, Ondo and Delta states, Members of the National Assembly, Ministers Women Affairs, Youths Development , and State for petroleum, Emir of Zazzau.
Others are the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen C G Musa, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, representatives of the Chief of Army staff and Airfoce, retired Inspectors General of Police, retired Senior Police officers, members of the force management team, Commissioners of Police across the thirty-six states including the Federal Capital Territory, officers and men of the Nigeria Police force.
The National Police day is designed to celebrate the dedication, sacrifices and achievements of the Nigeria Police force in ensuring national security.
The day is to provide a platform for recognizing the force's pivotal role in safeguarding lives and property, maintaining law and order while reinforcing public trust.
The occasion is also a reminder for Police officers as they are encouraged to uphold the principles of justice and integrity.
It is a call on Nigerians to continue supporting the Nigeria Police Force in its mission to ensure peace, safety, and national cohesion.
