Shadows Over Peretouru: The Tragic End of Collins Akasah

By Comrade Amb Victor Monday Olajide

In the heart of the Peretouru Federated Community, a deep, unsettling silence blanketed the streets as the sun set on a tragic chapter. The haunting story of Collins Akasah lingered in the air, echoing the sorrow and betrayal that unfolded over years of ambition and greed. Collins, a promising young man with dreams as expansive as the Niger Delta itself, was ensnared in a deadly power struggle between factions vying for control as Excel Exploration and Production Company prepared to establish its roots in the community.

It was 2004, a year filled with promise but also the seeds of discord. Collins was at the center of this conflict, embodying the hopes of many as he sought to uplift his community. Canus Phaminus and  Pastor faction, sought to impose their will upon Sana Quarter. Tensions flared as they clashed over the community chairmanship, a position that held significant influence over the lucrative opportunities arising from the arrival of Excel. Collins refused to bend to the pressure; he stood firm for what he believed was right, a decision that would cost him dearly.

Desperation turned to malice as the factions conspired to eradicate the threat he posed. They plotted in the shadows, whispering venomous rumors and stoking the flames of division. When Governor Alamieyeseigha, a name now stained with memories both good and bad, invited Collins for peace talks in Yenagoa, the conspirators seized the chance. Collins’s home in Sana Quarter was set ablaze—an act of cowardice meant to intimidate, but it only ignited his resolve.

As Collins sought safety with his allies in Yenagoa, the conspirators intensified their malevolent plot. They knew they couldn’t carry out their dark promises alone. Desperate for action, they enlisted the help of the late General Azazi. In a chilling reminder that truth often hides behind a veneer of respectability, they mobilized armed men clad in military uniforms, a façade of authority cloaking their wicked intent.

On that fateful day, the air was cold when a van loaded with some peretouru youths with army uniform storm agudama primary school and shoot sparodically at Collins with his secretary Tam and they took Collins away they poured acid in his mouth and left him to die in an uncompleted building at NPA waterside . before the information got to his family members to come and collect their son. it's 21 years now the children and brothers of late Collins Akasah have become of age and know the truth what do you expect of them
