PROF. JULIUS IHONVBERE: 69 HEARTY CHEERS TO A LEGISLATIVE COLOSSUS
NEWS / SPORTS / ENTERTAINMENT
By Comrade Amb Victor Monday Olajide
It was William Shakespeare, an English poet and playwright of his time who once serenaded that some men are born great, some achieve greatness, while some have greatness thrust upon them.
The above aphorism is one that adequately finds relevance in the warm personality of no mean repute and a globally acclaimed academician-turned politician whose exemplary odyssey in the last six decades and nine typifies a man who, by whatever criteria used, has tremendously succeeded in achieving greatness and attaining fame.
Welcome to the fascinating world of an astute federal legislator with unblemished magnificence and positive mien who in the present narrative is the Leader, 10th House of Representatives, the Rt. Hon. Prof. Julius Omozuanvbo Ihonvbere, CON, DSSRS, the Iseghede of Owanland.
A scholarly global citizen with uncommon drive for excellence in whatever he does and a rare breed of politician with high sense of decency, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere’s profuse display of legislative dexterity from the period he earned the mandate of Owan people to represent the federal constituency in the Green Chambers of the country’s National Assembly in 2019 has been topnotch, to say the very least.
Otherwise put, the ingenuity that has hallmarked the leadership model of this Iuleha-born legislative tactician since his grand entry into the country's federal lawmaking circle is such that has progressively catapulted the Owan Federal Constituency from its hitherto lull status to that of a bubbling political enterprise, as it were.
Suffice it to add that the Owan legislative voyage under the Professor Julius Ihonvbere’s epoch has largely been that of an inspiring brand of federal representation, one that has gradually morphed into a potpourri of commanding, verifiable, and development-oriented projects that now dot the length and breadth of the Owan landscape.
From the education sector to that of health and further down to the socio-economic sphere, the incontrovertible stockpile of legislative accomplishments under the able watch of the universally-renowned professor of Political Science and Political Economy has as yet remained inarguably unmatched.
As it stands, close to 70 Schools in Owan East and Owan West Local Government Areas have either been constructed or renovated, while some others are undergoing different stages of renovation. It is the same way he has not relented in several other aspects of developing the education sector in the federal constituency that include the provision of books and instructional materials, the supply of executive office furniture for Owan schools, construction of two Computer-Based Test Centres (CBT) in Owan, both of which have been earmarked for further facelift in the current legislative year in the area of being fully equipped with high-end computer systems and networking equipment and many others.
This is not also forgetting the over 25 transformers that have so far been facilitated to several communities in the federal constituency, provision of portable water across through motorized borehole facilities, and the several other projects, both completed and the ones still in the works, that are too numerous to outline here.
In the sphere of legislation, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere has so far initiated close to fifty (50) numbers of Bills, many of which have been passed and signed into law. It is still fresh in memory how the entire Owan was agog in February this year over the presidential assent given the Federal University of Sports Afuze, Edo State (Establishment) Bill sponsored by this federal legislator with overwhelming capacity and impregnable willpower. From whichever perspective it is viewed, the establishment of the Federal University of Sports Afuze is one outstanding legislative audacity that will remain unprecedented in the annals of representation in the federal constituency for many years to come.
The catchphrase of “na im be dis" readily comes to mind here; a unique sobriquet in Owan political lexicon that is reminiscent of the popular cliché of “The Eagle has Landed” which still resonates with profuse fluidity among the generality of the people whenever the name of this refined political figure being celebrated today is called to mind. It therefore goes without saying that history will be fair to this illustrious son of Owan and a passionate nation builder of our time.
The Owan nation is indeed very proud of you, the great Iyase of Iuleha, Ojenano of Uzairue, Ohenlevbo of Irrua, Irialugie of Auchi, and Iseghede of Owanland as the world celebrates and salutes the giant strides and exemplary leadership you have shown over the years on this blessed day of your 69th birthday anniversary.
Congratulations sir.
