The Coalition of Protection of Democracy in Nigeria: Empowering Youth for a Stronger Nation

Nigeria, a nation blessed with diverse cultures, rich resources, and resilient citizens, continues to grapple with the challenges of maintaining its democratic integrity. Recognizing the critical role of youth in shaping the nation's future, the Coalition of Protection of Democracy recently convened its maiden high-powered summit at the Chelsea Hotel in Abuja. This gathering aimed to foster dialogue, promote active youth engagement, and develop strategies to safeguard Nigerian democracy while empowering young people to take charge of their destiny.
A Platform for Youth Engagement

The summit served as a pivotal platform where stakeholders, political leaders, and youth representatives came together to brainstorm innovative ways to involve young Nigerians more meaningfully in policy-making and governance. The presence of prominent figures such as Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in 2023, underscored the significance of integrating youth voices into national decision-making processes. Obi, during his keynote address, emphasized the urgent need for policymakers to prioritize youth inclusion, recognizing that Nigeria's future depends on harnessing the energy, creativity, and potential of its young population.
The Importance of Youth Inclusion in Policy Decisions

Peter Obi's call highlighted a fundamental truth: the youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow but also vital contributors today. Their perspectives can influence policies on education, employment, technology, and social justice, ensuring that these policies are relevant and impactful. Caution Against Youth Negligence

While the summit celebrated the potential of youth engagement, National Chairman Prince Rwang Pam sounded a note of caution regarding youth neglect. He warned of a "silent anger" brewing among young Nigerians, which, if ignored, could lead to negative energy and unrest. Pam's warning underscores the importance of addressing youth grievances promptly and effectively — be it unemployment, educational disparities, or political marginalization — to prevent radicalization and maintain social harmony.

The maiden summit of the Coalition of Protection of Democracy in Nigeria marks a significant milestone in the journey toward a more resilient and inclusive democracy.
