AFAGASE: REDEFINING THE NARRATIVE FOR AKOKO-EDO HOUSE OF REPS

By Comrade Amb Victor M Olajide JP

In the vibrant heart of Igarra Ugbogbo, where the resilient spirit of Akoko-Edo pulses with unyielding determination, Hon. Johnson Paul Afagase has once again demonstrated why he stands as the undisputed choice to represent the good people of Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency in the hallowed chambers of the House of Representatives. As the clock ticks toward Saturday, April 11, 2026 – a date that will forever etch itself in the annals of Edo political history as both his official declaration of intent and his birthday – Afagase’s latest masterstroke of service has ignited a wildfire of hope across the ten wards of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.
Speaking at a landmark empowerment programme that has already become the talk of the constituency, Hon. Afagase empowered over one hundred women and three hundred men with critical farming implements – a bold, strategic intervention designed to ignite agricultural revolution and self-reliance at the grassroots. With the precision of a true statesman, he declared his unshakeable passion: “To arrest poverty in its tracks and lift the less privileged into the light of dignity and prosperity.” The massive turnout, with enthusiastic crowds streaming in from every single one of the ten wards, was not mere attendance; it was a thunderous referendum on his vision. “This,” he proclaimed to deafening applause, “is only the beginning. What you see today is the foundation of a new Akoko-Edo – prosperous, empowered, and unstoppable.”

In a display of rare political maturity and national loyalty, Afagase took the podium to salute the transformative leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. He lauded the President’s courageous reforms that are steadily repositioning Nigeria on the global stage and issued a clarion call to all sons and daughters of Edo State: “Support President Tinubu’s re-election bid with every fibre of your being. Let us consolidate these gains and build a greater Nigeria.” Turning homeward, he reserved glowing tributes for Governor Monday Okpebholo, describing him as “a governor the like of which Edo State has never seen before – pragmatic, visionary, and deeply committed to equity.” Afagase particularly hailed the Governor’s deliberate inclusion of Akoko-Edo, pointing to the historic appointment of two commissioners from the area and the elevation of one of its finest sons as Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service. “This is not tokenism,” he affirmed. “This is deliberate governance with Akoko-Edo at the centre.”

The beneficiaries – farmers, market women, youths, and elders alike – could not contain their gratitude. In wave after wave of testimonials, they hailed Afagase as a man of action, not words. “This is the kind of leader we have prayed for,” one empowered woman declared, her voice cracking with emotion. With one accord, they pledged their total support for his House of Representatives ambition, vowing to mobilise their families, communities, and networks without reservation.

The crescendo of the day came during a high-powered closed-door meeting with all the councillors of Akoko-Edo Local Government Council. In a moment of profound political significance, Hon. Afagase formally tabled his intention to contest the Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency seat. What followed was nothing short of historic: after a robust, issue-driven interaction, the entire house of councillors rose as one, unanimously endorsing and adopting him as their consensus candidate. “We have found our man,” the councillors chorused. Each pledged to carry the message like wildfire into their wards and among their followers, mobilising massive support for the man they now call “the people’s champion.”

In his characteristic humility and strategic foresight, Afagase thanked the councillors profusely. “If elected,” he assured them, “I will engage with you positively, constructively, and relentlessly to move our council forward. Your success is my success.” To seal the bond, he pledged a handsome financial donation to the legislative chamber and personally donated two sets of high-capacity air-conditioners along with a state-of-the-art solar power panel – tangible symbols of his commitment to a modern, efficient, and people-centred legislature.

As the sun set on Igarra Ugbogbo, it was clear to all present that this was no ordinary day. It was a covenant – a powerful reaffirmation that Akoko-Edo has found a voice that truly understands its yearnings, feels its pains, and will champion its aspirations with unrelenting vigour in the Green Chambers. The atmosphere was electric with reassurance: under Afagase’s leadership, poverty will be confronted head-on, opportunities will multiply, and the constituency will finally take its rightful place in the sun.

Team Afagase for House of Representatives was fully on ground, capturing every electrifying moment, every handshake, every pledge, and every promise. The movement is not just gaining momentum – it is becoming an unstoppable force.

The stage is set. The people are ready. On April 11, 2026, Hon. Johnson Paul Afagase will step forward on his birthday to answer the call of destiny. Akoko-Edo is about to witness a new dawn in representation – purposeful, dynamic, and fiercely committed to the progress of its people.
