2027: AKUME VOWS BENUE’S GLORIOUS RETURN — A POWERFUL CALL FOR UNITY AND RENEWED HOPE
By Amb. Musa Muhammad Tsoken
In a resounding declaration of purpose and vision, Senator George Akume, CON, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has ignited fresh confidence in the people of Benue State. With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, Akume assured stakeholders that Benue will reclaim its rightful place as a beacon of progress, prosperity, and political influence under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at a high-powered meeting with prominent APC leaders from Benue’s three senatorial districts, Akume delivered a compelling message of unity, resilience, and collective action. The delegation, led by Barr. Emmanuel Jime — former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and a respected political figure — represented a broad coalition of committed party faithful ready to drive transformative change.
“Benue will rise again,” Akume affirmed with unwavering conviction. He emphasized that unity, unwavering cooperation, and total commitment** among APC members are the non-negotiable keys to restoring the state’s political strength and unlocking its vast economic potential. Drawing on his deep-rooted experience and proven leadership, Akume pledged to continue safeguarding the interests of Benue’s people while championing their aspirations at the highest levels of national governance.
The SGF passionately urged party members to stand firmly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda — a bold, results-driven blueprint designed to deliver sustainable development, improved infrastructure, economic empowerment, and higher living standards for all Nigerians. He highlighted the Federal Government’s significant boost in financial allocations to states and local governments, equipping them with the resources needed to deliver tangible, life-changing projects.
Addressing past divisions head-on, Akume extended a powerful olive branch of reconciliation: “I hold no grudges against any politician. Let us put aside personal differences and work together for the greater good of Benue and the success of President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.” His words resonated deeply, framing unity not as an option, but as the only path to victory and lasting progress.
Reflecting on his transformative tenure as Governor of Benue State (1999–2007), Akume reminded the gathering of the solid foundations he laid — strategic investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and policies that uplifted the welfare of ordinary citizens. Those achievements, he noted, remain a testament to what focused, people-centered leadership can accomplish.
The meeting culminated in a powerful, unanimous endorsement: APC stakeholders across Benue passed a resounding vote of confidence in Senator Akume’s leadership and formally declared their full support for President Tinubu’s second term. The motion, moved by former Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Dan Ali, and seconded by former Attorney General Barr. Joe Abaagu, symbolized a new era of cohesion and determination.
Barr. Emmanuel Jime, speaking for the delegation, raised critical concerns about strengthening internal democracy within the APC in Benue. He appealed to Akume to leverage his vast experience and influence to enthrone fairness, inclusiveness, and genuine respect for democratic principles — values that defined their long-standing relationship since the pivotal 2003 elections. Jime praised Akume’s humility and supportive spirit, qualities that continue to inspire loyalty and unity.
The gathering featured several distinguished APC heavyweights, including Douglas Pepe (SAN), Prof. Cephas Tushima, Engr. Peter Ashiekaa, Prof. USAR, and other influential stakeholders, underscoring the depth and breadth of support for this renewed vision.
