AKUME ASSURES TINUBU OF NORTH-CENTRAL SUPPORT, DECLARES 2027 ENDORSEMENT
APC stakeholders at regional rally express support for Tinubu-Shettima ticket and party candidates
ABUJA — Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Dr. George Akume, CON, has assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of strong political support from the North-Central geopolitical zone ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with a pledge that the region will deliver 100 per cent of its votes to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.
The assurance was conveyed at the North-Central Endorsement Rally for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, which brought together APC governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, ministers, traditional rulers, and youth and women's groups from Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory.
At the gathering, Akume, described by party loyalists as a leading figure in the North-Central APC, reportedly declared the region's support for President Tinubu's re-election bid, citing what he described as the administration's inclusive governance, infrastructure development, political appointments and efforts to address security and food security challenges.
He also called for continuity in the implementation of the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda, arguing that the region stood to benefit from the continuation of ongoing government policies and programmes.
Akume Moves Motion for Tinubu's Adoption
In a major highlight of the rally, Akume reportedly moved a motion adopting President Tinubu as the preferred presidential candidate of APC stakeholders in the North-Central for the 2027 election.
The motion was seconded by Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, and received the endorsement of participants at the event, according to the organisers.
The gathering also expressed support for APC candidates contesting governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats in the 2027 general elections.
Akume's message emphasised the need for unity among party members and sustained mobilisation across the seven states and the FCT, with the aim of consolidating the APC's political structures ahead of the elections.
In his remarks, the SGF was quoted as saying that President Tinubu had demonstrated courage and commitment in pursuing the administration's reform agenda.
He also cited government initiatives relating to infrastructure, student loans, youth empowerment and food affordability as reasons for the region's stated support.
The claims concerning reductions in food prices and the impact of ongoing reforms were presented as part of the administration's achievements, although independent data would be required to establish their extent and effects across the region.
APC-IGG President Commends Akume's Leadership
Reacting to the endorsement, Ambassador Musa Muhammed Tsoken, National President of the APC Initiative for Good Governance (APC-IGG) and National Coordinator of the Asiwaju Again Renewed Hope Support Initiative 2027, commended Akume for his leadership and efforts to mobilise APC stakeholders across the North-Central.
Tsoken described the SGF as a strategic figure within the Tinubu administration, adding that the endorsement reflected the position of participating party stakeholders and the mobilisation efforts of APC support groups.
He said APC-IGG and allied support organisations would continue to mobilise supporters around the party's political objectives ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Tsoken, the organisation aligns with Akume's position on supporting the Tinubu-Shettima ticket and will work with relevant party structures towards that objective.
He expressed confidence in the group's capacity to contribute to the party's mobilisation efforts across the North-Central, while reiterating its commitment to the Renewed Hope campaign.
A Political Statement Ahead of 2027
The endorsement rally represents a political mobilisation effort by APC stakeholders in the North-Central ahead of the 2027 general elections. Its ultimate electoral impact, however, will depend on voter participation, public opinion, campaign activities and the choices Nigerians make at the polls.
While the organisers presented the gathering as a demonstration of regional unity behind the APC ticket, the pledge of 100 per cent votes remains a political commitment rather than an established electoral outcome.
The 2027 general elections will ultimately determine the extent to which the party's mobilisation translates into votes across the North-Central and the country at large.
