NOVEMBER 20 PEACEFUL PROTEST
The NDYM Abuja Chapter said that, following extensive deliberations at the Town Hall, it will proceed with a peaceful public demonstration on Thursday, November 20, 2026, to draw national attention to the issues raised by stakeholders and demand meaningful engagement and accountability.
The Movement is consequently calling on CSOs, MOSOP, Ijaw, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ogoni, Ibibio, Ikwerre and other Niger Delta organisations and stakeholders to join the peaceful advocacy.
«“This is not a call for violence. It is a call for responsible citizenship, peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement. The Niger Delta has a right to be heard, and we intend to make our voices heard peacefully, lawfully and responsibly.”»
‘OUR DEMAND IS DIALOGUE, ACCOUNTABILITY AND JUSTICE’
According to the Movement, the planned demonstration is intended to provide a legitimate platform for citizens to express their concerns and seek appropriate institutional responses to issues affecting the region.
The NDYM stressed that its objective is not to create disorder or undermine constituted authorities, but to draw attention to issues which it believes require urgent public discussion and institutional engagement.
«“We are calling for dialogue, accountability, transparency and fairness. Our message is clear: the concerns of Niger Delta communities must not be ignored, and legitimate stakeholders must have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their region.”»
SECURITY AGENCIES NOTIFIED
The Movement disclosed that formal letters have been communicated to the Inspector-General of Police, Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant security agencies regarding the planned activities.
The notification, according to the organisers, is intended to facilitate appropriate security arrangements and ensure that the exercise is conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner.
The NDYM also appealed to security agencies to work with the organisers to protect participants, members of the public and public infrastructure throughout the exercise.
NO ROOM FOR HOODLUMISM OR VIOLENCE
The Movement has directed all participants to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly.
It warned that violence, vandalism, provocation, destruction of property, confrontation with security personnel or any other unlawful conduct will not represent the objectives of the NDYM.
«“We will not allow miscreants or individuals seeking to cause disorder to hijack our message. Our protest is about the Niger Delta and the legitimate concerns of its people. It must therefore remain peaceful from beginning to end.”»
The NDYM Abuja Chapter urged all participating organisations to mobilise responsibly and ensure that their members comply with applicable laws and lawful directives from security authorities.
A UNITED VOICE FOR THE NIGER DELTA
The Movement called on Niger Delta youths and stakeholders to see the Town Hall and subsequent peaceful demonstration as an opportunity to promote unity, responsible civic participation and constructive engagement.
It reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the interests of the Niger Delta through peaceful advocacy, dialogue, constitutional means and democratic engagement.
«“We may come from different ethnic nationalities and communities, but on issues affecting the collective wellbeing of the Niger Delta, we must speak with one voice. Our strength is in our unity, our discipline and our commitment to peaceful advocacy.”»
The NDYM therefore invites the media, civil society organisations, traditional and community stakeholders, youth leaders and other concerned Nigerians to follow the proceedings and engage constructively with the issues being raised.
